It is with great pleasure that I announce the establishment of the Paths of Spirit Teaching and Healing Centre here in Ladysmith. Allied to this is the launching of a set of practical seminars on contemporary spiritual practice. The first of these, on the Seven Directions, is to run on May 2nd 2009. The Secret of the Seven Ways, like the other Paths of Spirit seminars, is the culmination of many years practicing and teaching in the way of the Mysteries. I was first introduced to working with the seven directions in the late 70's and early 80's when I trained in Gareth Knight's esoteric school. The teaching I received there was developed further by me in the Magi Group~ a fraternity of the western mysteries that I founded in the mid-nineties. Now, with the Paths of Spirit Seminars and a new series of books in the pipeline, the work comes to fruition. A new book on the Seven Directions is soon to be released too, so keep an eye out for details and excerpts to be posted on this site. |
I've just released The Mystery of the Seven Directions. This book is the fruit of many years teaching and working with the sacred pattern of seven directions, which underpins spiritual practices and temple constructs worldwide. For more information and to purchase, click on the cover image to your left. Also possibly of interest is the publication of an article of mine in the spring issue of Quest Magazine. The issue is entitled "Green Hermeticism" and my article is Healing the Rift: Working with the Power of the Land. The issue also contains articles by Stephen Hoeller and Christopher Bamford, among others. Richard Smoley, who recently took on the role of executive editor for Quest, provides a thoughtful introduction to the issue. You can read the contents of the issue here. For those who have read my article and wish to try the practice of The Stone of Story, this can be found here. |
Due to an overwhelming and unexpected response, the Paths of Spirit seminars are fully booked this year, right through the November event. I'm considering opening additional sections of the workshops as there is already a waiting list. I'm also considering a summer school type program next year, which would run for five days or a week and cover perhaps one or both parts of the core curriculum. If you have any interest in attending a second section of one of the seminars this year or in the summer school idea, please email me through the contact form on the home page. |
I often get emails asking about courses and books on esoteric Christianity, especially since Quest Books re-published my Magical Christianity in 2007. Initially, I tried to keep a door open for people interested in this field by offering courses and ritual training, but new directions in my writing and teaching have meant that I am no longer able to devote time to this. However, a recent email from Siobhan Houston regarding posting to her website an interview I did for Gnosis Magazine in 1997, gave me the idea to steer people towards her work and Richard Smoley's as two of the more important contributors today to the field of Magical and Inner Christianity. Siobhan's website, siobhanhouston.com, has many interesting articles and some excerpts from her seminal book and CD set entitled Invoking Mary Magdalene. Another important contributor to the field of esoteric Christianity and to inner traditions in general is Richard Smoley, website at innerchristianity.com. Richard's books Inner Christianity, Forbidden Faith, and Conscious Love should be required reading for anyone interested in the deeper, inner face of the Christian tradition. |
I am happy to announce the forthcoming publication of a new series of books entitled Light from the Green Mantle: The Selected Writings of Fiona Macleod. The first volume, just released, presents the more magical chants, runes, songs that flowed through William Sharp from the spirit of Fiona Macleod. Click on the cover image on the right for more information. Not unrelated to William Sharp's vision of the "Green Life", is a recent journey Marina and I took to Cathedral Grove, an old growth forest about an hour's drive from here. It was an awe-inspiring and spiritually enlivening experience to walk among some of the oldest living things on Earth. Cathedral Grove also provided a setting for the Forest Moon of Endor in the Star Wars film Return of the Jedi. I've uploaded a few photos. |

I find myself focussing much more energy on writing these days . With a good number of new projects in the works, and a tight schedule, I've found it necessary to tone down my public workshops. Thus in 2010, I'll be limiting my teaching activities to a few private seminars aimed at giving continuity to the studies of those who've participated in past workshops.
